Posted 21/10/2007 Works on Salvu Azzopardi street completedThe Dingli Local Council carried out works on Salvu Azzopardi street after the long await of 36 years for resurfacing. Posted 6/10/2007 Dingli DayAfter an absence from the calendar of six years, Dingli Day was celebrated at Dingli on the initiative of the Dingli Local Council. Activities were held throughout the whole day and involved all sectors of the local community. The events started at the Parish Church where Mons. Louis Camilleri celebrated mass. During mass the parish choir Regina Coeli gave their participation. After mass Mayor Ian Borg and Mrs. Philippa Borg (Day Centre Officer-in-Charge) opened an exhibition at the Dingli Day Centre. The exhibits were various crafts which had been created by elderly attendees of the day centre as well as others created by children attending Skola Sajf. After the opening of the exhibition, the local Scouts and Girl Guides groups marched to Ġnien il-Ħaddiem where Mayor Borg assisted M.FA. president, Dr. Joe Mifsud inaugurated the new Dingli Swallows Youth Nursery synthetic all purpose pitch. The ceremony was followed by a 5-a-side football tournament organized by Dingli Swallows Football Club. The evening was marked by a musico-literrary soiree at the Dingli Primary School. The music was provided by the Dingli Band Club (Għaqda Mużikali Santa Marija) directed by Richard Bugeja F.L.C.M., F.V.C.M. (Hons.), whilst the local drama circle (Għaqda Talent Dingli) gave two presentations about local history and Dingli personages. Another presentation was shown featuring important work carried out as part of the programme of the current legislature of the Local Council. The soiree was wrapped up by presentations to a number of people who have distinguished themselves in Dingli life. Joseph M. Abela, Charles Muscat, Godwin Caruana, Joseph Cuschieri and Jesmond Zammit were presented with tokens of appreciation for their achievements in different sectors of our society. The highest honour of the day, that of Ġieħ Ħad-Dingli, was awarded to Dr. Anthony Abela Medici.
